Jungle of Hope represents the economic situation of the Malays before Independence (1957) through two brothers. Kia seeks to maintain the traditional way of life, while Zaidi adapts to change and is involved in commerce. They represent the contrast between tradition and modernity in the Malay people’s struggle before Independence.
